From domestication to de-extinction, this book develops an economic framework to explain how and why humans govern wildlife — through private property, tribal systems, law, and the modern administrative state. Drawing on cases from North America, Europe, Africa, and Asia, it shows how governance determines whether wildlife are domesticated, exterminated, conserved, or restored.
